What makes the perfect t-shirt? We often ask (obviously!) ourselves this question because that’s our business! Even for us, it seems that the perfect t-shirt is as elusive as the holy grail for most people. The reality is that for each occasion, what makes a perfect t-shirt depends on a few key ingredients, like a stew. If any one element of the t-shirt is missing, then the entire stew is ruined.

Now, we all know how some t-shirts are cut too short and no matter what activity, even a walk at a slow pace or just sitting at the computer, will cause the t-shirt to ride up. That is not fun, especially if we haven’t been as diligent with the ab exercises as we should have been. On the flip side, a t-shirt that is too long will hinder those last 50 paces of a run, as it restricts movement. Finding that balance between a shirt that is too snug, and just too large, is essential for all t-shirt selections. This balance is often difficult when you factor in potential t-shirt shrinking in the dryer. Proceed with caution.

With so many choices of fabric, it’s hard to know what fabric is best, especially for working out. Between cotton and all the derivations thereof, including organic cottons, polyesters with the many variations of Cool and Dry elements, and middle of the road 50% cotton / 50% polys, it’s a minefield. The best advice is to buy one of each and then decide which works best for your body and workouts. Then, once you’ve chosen, go crazy and buy a whole bunch of your favorites!

If all of those options weren’t enough, t-shirts today are not your mama’s t-shirt with additional options including: sun protection, mesh, wicking moisture management, fade resistant and anti-microbial fabrics, to name a few! I’m tired just thinking about it. Whatever your needs, you can find a t-shirt that fits all of them.

What’s the perfect t-shirt for us? We thought you’d never ask. We just want a t-shirt like the one we used to wear for our soccer games (and track events, baseball tryouts, and the list goes on, because of course we’re very athletic over here) and cover in grease from that post-game hotdog.

Do they make ones with grease included?
